NEW SOUTH WALES DANCESPORT LEAGUE

For a period of time now, we have been unable to attract many new numbers to our sport.  Two reasons for this have been put down to the duration of competitions and the costs involved.  Dancesport are approaching these points in a number of ways.  One example is the “Dancesport League”

By encouraging new blood into the competition scene, costs for these events would be able to be reduced as more competitors would be in attendance.   With more competitors, you would think that competitions would last longer, however there are strategies under proposal in the new structure of our competitive scene to deal with this, but I will not go into those in this article.

To encourage the new blood into our sport, Dancesport NSW will hold their League event at Belmore RSL on Sunday 18th November.  It is a competition aimed at people who have little or no experience of competitive dancing.  The event will commence at 10am and will finish by 2pm.  (Yes, 4 hours!)  The entry fee is a low $5 for all in attendance.  There will be competitions for couples, individuals and teams.  We have made a ruling of “no competitive attire”, as we don’t want to discourage anybody  from continuing in the league system.  We aim to have as few rules as is possible, again not to discourage competitors.

We are pleased to announce that Danny Parker & Kristina Palamadovska and Grant Barrett-Thompson & Natalie Huber will demonstrate for us on this day.  Not the normal displays that we see from them in competitions, but “BASICS”.  Basic choreography in practice clothing to display to the people in attendance just how it can be done, without the intimidation of advanced choreography and expensive competitive attire.
