The Caterpillar of this species is green with a darker green line along the back, and yellow lines along each side. It feeds on:

  • Sensitive Plant ( Neptunia dimorphantha, MIMOSACEAE ), and
  • dwarf Five-Leaf Cassia ( Cassia mimosoides, CAESALPINIACEAE ).

    The Caterpillar grows to a length of about 3 cms. The pupa is green with a yellow line along each side, and has a pointed head with a pink tip. The pupa is attached to a twig of the foodplant with a cremaster and girdle.

    The upper surfaces of the wings of the adult butterflies are yellow with black edges. The undersides are yellow with sparse brown marks, and a rust coloured edge. They have a wingspan of about 3 cms.

    The eggs are spindle-shaped and yellow. They are laid singly on the upper surface of a leaf of a foodplant.

    The species occurs as various subspecies from Africa to south east Asia, including :

  • India,
  • Singapore,
  • Sri Lanka,
  • Swaziland, and
  • Thailand,

    as well australis in the north and east of Australia, including:

  • Lord Howe Island,
  • New South Wales,
  • Northern Territory, and
  • Queensland.
