This caterpillar has been imported because it feeds on the foiliage of :

  • Giant Sensitive Tree ( Mimosa pigra, MIMOSACEAE ).

    This plant is a serious weed in the Northern Territory.

    The adult moth of this species has white wings with brown margins and a scattering of pale brown spots.

    The species occurs naturally in South America, including:

  • Belize, and
  • Guyana.
